It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

No, not Christmas — National Novel Writing Month! This will be my fifth year participating, and hopefully my fifth year “winning.” I say “winning” in quotes, because I don’t think I’ll actually write 50,000 words, as my goal is to finish my current project, Aurora, and I don’t think it’ll take that many words to do so.

Also, while I wrote way more than 50,000 words the past several Novembers, I haven’t done anything with my drafts after Nano ended. Well, that’s not entirely true; the current iteration of Aurora barely resembles my first draft outline, but I was able to use more bits and pieces of the manuscript than I originally thought I would.

But hopefully, by the end of November, I will have a fully functioning draft of Aurora that will only need some revising and editing before I can start querying. I’m really confident with my current outline, the story has already been rewritten and chopped to pieces, and I know these characters like the back of my hand. I just need to finish the draft, then make sure the words sound pretty. (Unless one of my betas tells me it’s awful and needs another complete overhaul, in which case I will cry a lot. And then put on my big girl pants and fix the problem.)

I can do this. I will do this. No more procrastinating, no more weddings and honeymoons to get in the way of writing.

Next month, I am going to finish the draft of my book. And it’s going to feel fabulous.
