It’s NaNoWriMo time!
That’s right, yesterday marked the start of National Novel Writing Month 2015. Every year, intrepid novelists, short story writers, fanficcers, bloggers, and penmonkeys of all types attempt to write 50,000 words in 30 days. This always results in a few meltdowns, lots and lots of caffeine, and completed and incompleted novels of questionable quality.
I’ve long since learned that I can blow past 50k words when I put my mind to it. This year, my goal is to finish drafting THE MAGE QUEEN, my space opera version of The Lion King. I’ve had it in my head for awhile, and I’m very happy with the outline, so I think I can bang out a draft pretty quickly. Of course, November is my busiest month at work and real life stress is higher than ever, so finishing this draft might be more difficult than in previous years. (Not to mention a trip to the opposite side of the country planned for Thanksgiving.) But I’m going to try to finish as much as I can during NaNoWriMo.
Once November is over, I’m jumping back to make final edits on AURORA and make a few more passes on my query letter and synopsis. Then it’s time to jump back into the query trenches. Hopefully, I’ll have a new manuscript waiting to be torn apart to keep me busy.
